A ministry internship at CityLife Church offers hands-on experience in a dynamic and spiritually vibrant environment, equipping individuals for effective leadership and service in church ministry. Interns may engage in a variety of roles, including worship, kids, youth, young adults, pastoral care, and potentially in other areas of church life.
Under the mentorship of experienced leaders, interns receive practical training, spiritual development, and opportunities to grow in their calling, exercise of their spiritual gifs and maturing in Christian character.
The program emphasises leadership and ministry development, servanthood, and a deepened relationship with God, making it ideal for those looking to learn and grow.
Now accepting expressions of interest for a February 2027 intake.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a typical week look like?
- a 1-2 day site-based ministry role, inclusive of relevant serving, administration and leadership;
- sessions approximately twice per month on Wednesdays; and
- one to one coaching from a ministry supervisor who will be a pastor, a Life Group coach, or another suitably qualified and experienced person approved by the relevant Lead Pastor.
You are encouraged to attend staff devotions, staff meetings and other staff events if in the Knox office on Wednesdays. You will also attend training conducted in, or with, the ministry team to which you are assigned.
Can an intern have another job or enrolled in other studies while in the program?
Interns coming into the program work at a CityLife location for 1-2 days including weekend ministry (depending on their stream and/or ministry team), allowing the other days for study and paid work.
How long is the internship program?
This is a year-long program, from February to December. Interns who successfully complete it will also have the option of continuing with coaching and theological studies (2 or 3 years) where vocational ministry and specific ministry specialisation (in a generations role, pastoral care, church planting, world impact, or marketplace ministry can be explored).
Do interns have to undertake formal theological study?
Interns can decide to do formal theological study alongside the CityLife Internship Program or may complete the internship without study. All potential interns are encouraged to discuss these options with their ministry heads. Those who may have a calling for full-time ministry roles in the future will be encouraged to seriously consider theological studies as well, whether this is undertaken now or in the future.
Is this a paid internship?
This is an unpaid internship. There is also no cost/fee to be part of the program. Registration costs will be covered by CityLife Church for agreed events only and other resources may also be supplied at no cost to the intern.
Will I be offered a paid role at CityLife after the internship program?
This internship program is entirely for learning and development and there is no promise or guarantee of employment or of a volunteer leadership role upon entering this program. On completion, interns will be encouraged to continue serving and leading but will be equipped for greater effectiveness. Those continuing with coaching beyond the internship will be encouraged to explore potential vocational ministry options and ministry aptitude.
Will laptops be provided to interns?
Each intern will need to provide their own laptop to use during the duration of the program.
Can the Internship be completed online?
For the best experience, coaching and Intern sessions should all be conducted in person on Wednesdays where access to some staff meetings will provide further benefit. Every attempt will be made to offer online access to key sessions and to coaches, although some coaches may require that coaching sessions be conducted in person.
Who should apply?
The CityLife Ministry internship is open to all CityLife partners aged 18 and above who are actively serving and who are keen to explore and develop their leadership and ministry calling. An interview will be conducted with applicable candidates to assess suitability for the program.
Who can I contact if I have additional questions?
Please email us at discipleship@citylife.church or speak to your Lead Pastor or ministry leader who will need to approve your involvement.
Choose from one of the two following options – both of which can be discussed with the Lead Pastor (who may consult the CityLife Discipleship Program Manager who oversees the Ministry Internship program).
Expressions of interest now open.
