Text: Luke 15:7
Opening Reflection
In Luke 15, Jesus tells a simple but powerful story. A shepherd has one hundred sheep, but one goes missing. The shepherd does not ignore the loss. He does not say, “I still have ninety nine; that is enough.” Instead, he leaves the ninety nine and searches for the one lost sheep. When he finds it, he rejoices and invites others to celebrate with him.
Jesus explains that this story shows us something important about God. He says that there is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. Heaven rejoices because God’s heart is full of love for lost people. This story helps us understand how much God values every human life.
Jesus told this parable because the Pharisees were upset. They complained that Jesus welcomed sinners and ate with them. The parable gently challenges religious pride. The Pharisees thought they were righteous and did not need repentance. But Jesus reminds us that everyone needs grace and mercy. No one is saved by being “good enough.” We are saved because God loves us and seeks us.
God’s Heart for the Lost
The actions of the shepherd reveal the heart of God. The shepherd notices that one sheep is missing. He leaves the safe place. He enters danger. He searches carefully and intentionally. When the lost sheep is found, the shepherd rejoices with joy.
This story points to Jesus, the Great Shepherd. Jesus did not only risk discomfort to save us. He gave His life. To God, one soul is worth everything because every person is created in God’s image and deeply loved by Him.
This is why evangelism and missions matter. God is not interested in numbers alone. He cares about people—their stories, struggles, and hearts.
Partnering with God
The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is already at work in people’s lives. Jesus said no one comes to Him unless the Father draws them. This means evangelism is not something we force. It is something we join. God is already working in our families, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Our role is to walk with Him—praying, listening, loving, and speaking when the time is right.
God often uses many people over time to bring one person to faith. One person prays, another shows kindness, another answers questions, and another shares the gospel. Every role matters, even if we never see the final result.
