1. OPENING (3–5 min)
Welcome everyone and briefly introduce the theme:
“Today, we’re exploring what it means that God is a Sending God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and what it means for us to be His sent people in our everyday lives.”
Icebreaker (choose one):
• Where is the most memorable place you’ve ever been sent (for work, school, church etc.)?
• Share one space where you spend a lot of time each week (workplace, café, gym, club, neighbourhood).
2. SCRIPTURE FOCUS (5–7 min)
Read the following passages together:
• Genesis 1:1–3, 26–28 – God sends His Word and His breath into creation.
• Luke 4:16–21 – Jesus declares His missional calling.
• John 20:21 – “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
• Matthew 28:19–20 – The Great Commission.
Ask:
1. What do these passages reveal about God’s “sending” nature?
2. Where do you see His mission at work in these verses?
3. TEACHING SUMMARY (Leader shares 3–4 min)
Use simple bullet points:
• God has always been a missionary God.
• He sends His Word and His Spirit in creation.
• He sends His presence and His prophets throughout Israel’s history.
• He sends Jesus as the perfect missionary.
• The Father and Son send the Holy Spirit.
• And finally, the Trinity sends us.
Therefore:
Mission is not a program - it’s the nature of God and the identity of His people.
4. DISCUSSION (12–15 min)
Use 3–5 of these questions depending on time.
A. Understanding the Mission
1. If God is a sending God, what does it mean that we are a sent people?
2. How does it challenge or reshape your understanding of “mission”?
3. Is mission more about joining God in what He is already doing, or starting something new ourselves in a new place? Why?
B. “To Whom Have I Been Sent?”
4. Who are the specific people - by name - in your world you sense God is sending you to?
5. Where do you see spiritual hunger in your neighbourhood, workplace, school, or daily spaces?
C. Living the Mission
6. David Bosch (South African Missional Theologian) defines mission as “alerting everyone everywhere to the universal reign of God through Christ.” What does this practically look like in your daily life?
7. What makes mission difficult today? What helps you stay intentional?
5. ACTIVITY: “NAME YOUR SENT SPACE” (5–7 min)
Ask each person to answer these two prompts on paper or in their phone. Give everyone 1 minute of quiet to think and write.
1. Where has God placed me right now? (e.g., neighbourhood, school, gym, café, sports club)
2. Who are 2–3 people I am being sent to? Write names if possible (no sharing required if people prefer privacy).
Then ask:
1. In Amanda’s message, she used the illustration of the dark room and the sunrise. The sunrise represents God bursting into the world, and the dark room represents the world we live in. The illustration was that we are in a dark room, and our job was to simply ‘smear the dirt on the window’ to help people see the redemptive work of God in the world. Our job is also to explain the sunrise to others as best we can. “What is one simple way you could ‘wipe the window’- giving someone a clearer glimpse of Jesus this week?” (Examples: a prayer, a coffee, an act of kindness, a spiritual conversation, an invitation, listening deeply.)
2. Let a few share if comfortable.
6. PRAYER PRACTICE (5–7 min)
A. Pair Prayer (2–3 minutes)
In pairs, pray for:
• The names on each other’s lists
• Courage, clarity, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
B. Group Prayer (leader-led):
Use this adapted prayer:
“Lord, You know each person by name. You know what they need and how deeply You love them. Help us listen well and recognise where You are already at work. Give us boldness and compassion as Your sent people. Help us trust and obey You each day. Let Your reign be seen in our neighbourhoods.” Amen.
7. OPTIONAL EXTENSIONS (if group wants to go deeper)
A. Scripture Meditation (5 min)
Pick one passage to meditate on: John 20:21, Matthew 5:14–16, Isaiah 43:19.
B. Weekly Challenge
Ask each person to commit to one small step toward someone they are sent to and share a testimony next meeting.
8. CLOSING (1–2 min)
End with encouragement:
“Our God is a missionary God — and He invites us to join Him. Wherever you live, work, or play this week, you are sent.”
