The Mission of God and Alpha

Sermon Recap

From the very beginning, God created humans in His image (Genesis 1:27–31), inviting us into intimacy, purpose, and co-partnership with Him. We were meant to walk with Him, reflect Him, and fill the earth with His presence. But instead of running toward Him, we hid (Genesis 3:8). That moment of disconnection echoes in us today—we still hide, avoid, and pull away.

Yet God had a plan. He never stopped pursuing us.

In Colossians 1:9–23, we’re reminded of the rescue mission: through Jesus, we are redeemed, restored, and brought from darkness into light. He is the image of the invisible God, and by Him, all things hold together. Now, we are called to follow Him—not just personally, but missionally.

As Jesus said, “As the Father sent me, I am sending you” (John 20:21). This is the heart of Alpha: to invite others into that journey of exploring life, faith, and meaning—one conversation at a time.

Scripture of the Week

Colossians 1:13–14 (NIV)“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Reflection Questions

1. Genesis 3:8 shows us Adam and Eve hiding from God.

In what ways do we still “hide” from God today?

What helps you return to intimacy with Him?

2. Colossians 1 highlights God’s rescue plan.

Which truth from this chapter stands out to you right now—and why?

3. Jesus invites us to join Him in His mission (John 20:21).

What does partnering with Jesus in your daily life look like?

4. Alpha is a space for those who are curious and questioning.

Who in your life might benefit from a safe space like Alpha?

Have you prayed about inviting someone? What holds you back?

What is Alpha?

Alpha is an 8-week course starting 5th May 2025.

It’s designed for people who wouldn’t call themselves Christians—those who are curious, questioning, or seeking meaning.

It’s a safe space for honest conversations about life, faith, and purpose.

“Why do we run from God? Why do we hide? The story of the Bible is God calling us back—not to religion, but to relationship.” We are invited to walk with Him and share His love with others.

Next Step

Pray. Ask God to highlight someone.

Invite boldly. Love gently. Trust fully.

Alpha starts 5th May—invite someone to come experience a taste.
